With every day the stories get worse and worse: militias, white supremacists, protests turning violent, wide-scale attempts at disenfranchisement — and a president unwilling to commit to a peaceful transition of power.

The stage has been set for tragedy.

Regardless of which direction things go on November 3rd, we can count on one thing: it will be a time of incredible fear, anger and pain in our country.

Some political actors thrive in this climate because fear and anger feed their goals. Those of us who hope to be on the side of change, however — true positive change in this world — must rise above such emotions.

Under the sway of such negativity it is all too easy to lose sight of the dignity and worth of all human beings, and thereby become part of the problem rather than the solution.

A healthy, righteous anger can inspire your fight for justice but heartburn will simply send you to the hospital.

Mindfulness and meditation can help us move beyond negative emotions and are therefore essential tools for the transformation of both ourselves and our nation.

To give people free access to mindfulness and meditation during this unprecedented challenge, we are creating a mindfulness and meditation summit: The Mindful Vote 2020.

The Event

The Mindful Vote 2020 is free live-streaming mindfulness and meditation summit. From the day before to the day after the election, we will be offering free teachings to help people move beyond the fear anger and pain of this incredibly challenging time.

You can join us by signing up on the ThatZenLife.org website for live-streaming, or by visiting The Event’s Facebook page here.

PerCilla Zeno “The Healing Partner” is one of the The Mindful Vote’s co-organizers and speakers and she founded the nonprofit That Zen Life in order to help others grow hope & resiliency through mental health promotion, prevention, and recovery.

I’m Simon Timm, the other co-organizer of the event, and my mindfulness teaching can be found at The Self Salutation website here.

You can learn a bit more about the event in this short video below…

The Link Between Meditation and Social Change

The purpose of this event is not merely to provide people with a shelter from the storm we see approaching. Mindfulness and Mediation are not just tools for coping with the world or bettering yourself. They can help to uplift the people around you as well.

In one famous study done in 1993 a group of between 800-4,000 people meditated for close to 2 months in Washington, DC. The crime rate in our nation’s capital during that time dropped by over 23%.

After the experiment the crime rate began to rise again.

As the above-linked report on the study explains, “The statistical probability that this result could reflect chance variation in crime levels was less than 2 in 1 billion (p < .000000002).”

If you’ve ever doubted that we are all interconnected, there’s as close a thing as proof as I have ever seen.

The collective focus of mass numbers of people siting in meditation during the 2020 election can be a key part of helping this country to rise beyond the current fractured state we are in.

If we wish to create a better world, we must come together and elevate our consciousness as a society.

Once again, you can join us for The Mindful Vote 2020 by signing up on the ThatZenLife.org website for live-streaming, or by visiting The Event’s Facebook page here.. You can also volunteer and donate there!
